Nicole and Nice

Death be not proud, but some cemetery monuments are in Nice. I like the idea of having busts of the departed. It seems as if this one was designed to have a second higher bust at the top, but then that person didn't die or decided to be buried someplace else.

This grave in Nice has a bust AND weeping women. I'm thinking for myself, when the time, comes, something like that, but perhaps with three weeping women, a full statue rather than a bust and possible a mosaic background. You only die once.

This guy was a Russian who died in Nice. I like this statue. Handsome, imposing, something like that for me (but with weeping women, a possible mosaic and maybe some angels)

This monument is closer to what I want for myself. It's lovely with the broken anchor and the life-sized statues. The man looks pensive and bookish. That's nice, but I think I still prefer the Russian statue a bit.
This is only the bottom however . . .

The top half of the monument from the previous picture. Look at all those angels! This was also at the highest point in the graveyard and is the tallest monument.
For myself (in the far future) I don't think I need the most imposing location, as people are certain to seek it out. Tallest is still good though. As are those angels, but don't forget the multiple weeping women. Maybe the whole thing should be set against a wall for the mosaic work. Also, it should be somewhat protected from the elements so I don't end up like Ozymandias.
Perhaps also a foundation could be established to put busts and statues of me in public squares. Like Ronald Reagan has. People involved can solicit donations, have banquets, pay themselves salaries and give themselves awards, but they should actually manage to get a sculpted likeness of me up once in a while.
Mostly, I want to be remembered like I lived, but a bit more vain and self-aggrandizing.

The cemetery in Nice. It has some Italian influence, I think.

"Raynaud 1993"
A French artist built a wall out of cardboard boxes. It reminds me of Alvin Lucier's (later) wall made of the same material, but this wall is a square and stamped with the name of the artist and the year.
This wall was in a retrospective exhibit in the Modern Art Museum in Nice

Gallery Opening.
This piece is called Twin Rivers. It's a video installation in the windows of a closed show. On one side, the artist takes a bucket of water from the river near her home town in Russia. In the other side, she dumps out the bucket in the Rhine, the river nears Karlsruhe.

They call it the Black Forest because the trees are so close together that the sun never hits the ground. However, this area has been logged some, so there are gaps and patches of sun.

Along all the roads, there were piles of firewood that people had stacked in the forest for winter. Most stacks were covered in tarps or other material with rocks or big pieces of wood keeping the covering in place. Most of them had much newer looking wood than this one, but this had the best decoration.

From this point, I could not see or hear signs of human habitation (if you don't count the fact that the meadow below has cows in it)
